LUXURY RAIL EXPERIENCE

South Africa has many options for the rail enthusiast. Due to years of firsthand experience in the rail industry Africa Rising has proven itself to be a leading authority on luxury rail travel and therefore has positioned itself to ensure your rail journey is the best suited to focus on your specific interests.

If you are looking for that 'wow' factor then Africa Rising’s Luxury Rail Experiences are for you. Whether it be a romantic weekend away, a company incentive, or an evening function, Africa Rising with its rail partners will create an experience that should not be missed.

From scheduled 1 and 2 night journeys including routes between Pretoria & Cape Town, Pretoria & Durban and Pretoria & Victoria Falls to the more adventurous longer journeys such as Cape Town to Dar Es Salaam, Pretoria to Swakopmund and the African Collage, Africa Rising with its rail partners can offer the old world charm of Rovos Rail to the modern appeal of the Blue Train to the more affordable Premier Classe Train.

Africa Rising will also co-ordinate private day or overnight charters as well as golf train safaris. Some examples of Africa Rising’s train itineraries are listed below.
 
Cape Town
Pretoria to Cape Town
  • Day 1: Depart Pretoria aboard the Pride of Africa.
  • Day 2: Arrive in Kimberley. Passengers visit the Big Hole and Diamond Museum.
    Depart Kimberley and proceed overnight via De Aar and Beaufort West for Matjiesfontein.
  • Day 3: Visit the historic village of Matjiesfontein. Depart Matjiesfontein and proceed via
    Touws River, De Doorns and Worcester to Cape Town. Arrive Cape Town Station.
  • This itinerary is also available in reverse and can be linked with the Pretoria to
    Victoria Falls route.
Victoria Falls
Pretoria to Victoria Falls
  • Day 1: The Pride of Africa departs from Rovos Rail's private station Capital Park. After
    traversing the Magaliesberg Range, the train heads towards Mafikeng for border formalities.
  • Day 2: Day spent on board the train whilst travelling through Botswana.
    Border formalities at Plumtree (Zimbabwe).
  • Day 3: Day at leisure on the train whilst travelling through Zimbabwe.
    Arrive at Victoria Falls Station.

    route.
Durban
Pretoria to Durban
  • Day 1: Depart from Rovos Rail’s station in Capital Park. Lunch is served in the dining car/s. Dinner is served en route to Elandslaagte, near Ladysmith.
  • Day 2: Wake up call for early morning game drive in the Namibiti Private Game Reserve. Brunch is served in the dining car/s. Disembark at Estcourt for a choice of excursion: Option 1 – Game drive in Spionkop Game Reserve Option 2 – Spionkop battlefields escorted tour. Sundowners overlooking the dame and dinner at Spionkop Lodge.
  • Day 3: Breakfast is served as the train descends the escarpment en route to Lions River station. Visit to the famous Ardmore Ceramics gallery including an equestrian display and tea. The train dparst for Pietermaritzburg. Arrive in Durban
  • This itinerary is also available in reverse.
 
Dar es salaam
Pretoria to Dar es Salaam
  • Day 1: Depart Cape Town station, arrive Matjiesfontein and explore this quaint village.
  • Day 2: Upon arrival in Kimberley board the buses for a tour of the Big Hole and Museum.
  • Day 3: Arrive Pretoria for lunch and city tour.
  • Day 4: Arrive Zeerust for an overnight stay at a 5* game lodge.
  • Day 5: After breakfast, guest activities, lunch, dinner and overnight at the lodge.
  • Day 6: Early morning game drive. Depart Gaborone on board the train.
  • Day 7: Arrive at Plumtree for border formalities.
  • Day 8: Arrive Victoria Falls and transfer to the Victoria Falls Hotel. Sunset cruise on
    Zambezi River followed by dinner & overnight at the hotel.
  • Day 9: Day at leisure. Available tours include tour of the falls, golf, flight of the angels
    and river rafting. Depart Victoria Falls on board the train.
  • Day 10: Pass through Lusaka.
  • Day 11: Arrive Kanona for brunch excursion at Kundalila Falls.
  • Day 12: Arrive Tunduma for Tanzania border control.
  • Day 13: Arrive Makambako.
  • Day 14: Arrive Tazara Station in Dar es Salaam.
 
Rail Charter
Africa Rising offers private lunch or dinner runs on board the various rail options available. This
unique experience is ideal for end of year functions, company events or launches, weddings,
birthday parties or anniversaries


An example of a dinner run is as follows:
  • 18h30 to 19h00:
    Guests arrive at Rovos Rail’s Capital Park Station. Champagne, orange juice and canapés
    are served on arrival. Musicians play light classical music in the background.
    A Steam Locomotive will be parked on the platform adjoining the station lounge, allowing the
    guests numerous photographic opportunities.

  • 19h30 to 19h45:
    The locomotive will move off the platform to fetch the train and bring it on to the platform.
    While all the participants are together and their attention is focused, this is an ideal time for
    speeches or presentations.

  • 20h00:
    Departure for a circular panoramic tour around Pretoria

  • 23h00:
    Arrive back at Capital Park Station

  • Drinks will be served in the Observation and Lounge cars on departure.
